Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Receives Gingerbread Update!

Latest Update : Looks like Sony Ericsson was a few days early on the release notice, the actual update is actually a few days away, so to all of you X10 owners, it'll be out soon in a few days time. Just not yet.

To all of you Xperia X10 owners out there, Sony Ericsson has finally released the Android 2.3 AKA Gingerbread update for the handset today! This long awaited release may well be the last firmware update for the Xperia X10 as we're not sure if Sony Ericsson will update the handset through Ice Cream Sandwich (and beyond). Anyway, here are some things to take note of before updating :

  • User data, such as contacts, messages and more, saved in your phone memory will be overwritten. User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected.
  • DRM content will be overwritten.
  • The Backup and Restore app will be overwritten and cannot be used to restore data. Check out Android Market for alternative apps to back up and restore your data, such as MyBackup.
  • The Creatouch, Neoreader and Quadrapop apps will be removed.
  • Mediascape, homescreen operator customization and app tray operator customization will no longer be supported.
  • Moxier Exchange will be replaced by Android 2.3 Gingerbread Exchange support.

So there you have it. You've been warned. Make sure you've backup all your necessary stuff manually before you update. If you're an AT&T user (in the US) you have to wait a little longer as this update is only for unlocked devices. The update is rolling out slowly in stages, so if you haven't receive it yet - don't fret, it might take a while before you get it.
