VIZIO releases 8-Inch sub-$300 Android Tablet for the masses.

VIZIO has just released their 8-inch sub-$300 Android Tablet for the masses and it is now available in retail stores such as Amazon and Walmart. The VIZIO Tablet does not sport the usual Tegra 2 Powered SOC from NVIDIA or even the HoneyComb OS either. Here's the lowdown of the specifications:

  • 8-Inch LED backlit LCD with multi-touch capabilities, ambient light sensor and accelerometer
  • 1024 x 768 resolution, native 720p
  • Android 2.3 OS (GingerBread)
  • 1 GHZ Processor (non-dual core)
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4 GB of internal storage with 2 GB of user accessible storage
  • MicroSD support up to 32 GB
  • 1 HDMI v1.4 port, 1 micro USB port and 1 headphone jack
  • Front Facing VGA Camera (30 fps)
  • SRS TruMedia Enhancement with 3 speakers for Audio
  • Wireless N Wifi with Bluetooth connectivity
  • 10 Hours of Battery Life

From the specifications above, you can see that it is pretty much a budget tablet running on a non-tablet optimized Android 2.3 OS. The rest of the specifications are acceptable at this price point and the good news is that it has a decent number of ports - HDMI output, micro USB, headphone jack and micro SD support! If you're looking for a budget tablet, this is probably the tablet that you might want to consider if the HoneyComb tablets are out of your budget reach.
