In a recent interview with HTC's VP of Marketing with GSMArena, he said that there's no exclusive chipset deal between HTC and Qualcomm and that "Nvidia or TI powered smartphones and tablets are possible in the future". With that being said, could it mean that its possible we will be seeing HTC using Nvidia's Kal-El chips next year?
Well anything is possible because so far the Qualcomm's chipset has one weakpoint and that is the GPU. This was very obvious when Samsung released their Hummingbird chip for use in their flagship Samsung Galaxy S phone - it had at least a 2-3x faster GPU compared to Qualcomm's Adreno 200. Even when the successor to Adreno 200 was released - the Adreno 205, it was still no match to beat the Hummingbird's PowerVR GPU.
Then sometime this year, Nvidia released their Tegra 2 SOC and soon, we should be seeing the Quad-Core Tegra 3 chip coming out sometime towards the end of the year. Will HTC stop using Qualcomm chips and move to either the Tegra 3 or Texas Instruments Chipset? Only time will tell. Lets hope they do it sooner rather than later otherwise they will be losing potential customers.
