Adobe Says Goodbye To Flash On Android & Other Mobile Platforms

In a somewhat shocking news, Adobe has decided to call it quits on Flash for Android & other mobile platforms. Plagued with performance and security issues, Adobe has eventually given up on flash for the mobile platform and has released the following statement:

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations. Some of our source code licensees may opt to continue working on and releasing their own implementations. We will continue to support the current Android and PlayBook configurations with critical bug fixes and security updates.

Looks like they'll just be fixing bugs and security loopholes from now on, no more future updates or developments for the mobile platform. We thank Adobe for all their hard work in bringing Flash to Android which is still largely a success despite the performance issues but we at least get the "full" web experience on the Android platform compared to iOS.
