Currently ShadowGun is a Tegra 2 exclusive but will soon be released for non-tegra devices as well as the developers optimize it for non-tegra chipsets soon. Or you could sideload it and use ChainFire 3D to play the game on your non-tegra device.

This review covers the game's graphics, gameplay, AI and control mechanics. Check out the full review of the game after the jump.

Ice Cream Sandwich Ported To Galaxy S

There are more and more ports of Ice Cream Sandwich and the latest one is for the first generation of the Samsung Galaxy S which is still a very solid handset performer compared to its successor - the Galaxy S II. We all know that most manufacturers have plans to bring ICS to their android devices - ASUS will be bringing ICS to their EEE Pad tablet series, Motorola is expected to bring ICS to Droid RAZR, Droid Bionic & Xoom Devices pretty soon.

While there's no official word on whether the first gen Galaxy S will be getting the ICS treatment, there's still reason to think that it won't receive it - but hey, why wait now when you could do the port yourself right? That's what XDA Members - galnet and lttldvl - both well known MIUI developers did.

Right now the port is a proof-of-concept version and you can still grab it if you're interested but don't go crying if anything is broken. Its there for you to play around and have fun with it until the porting process is done. Check it out below:

Time Lapse Video Recording In HoneyComb

For those who own HoneyComb tablets like myself, you might or might not already know that there's actually a time-lapse video recording feature built into honeycomb's Camera app. Yes you heard that right. Its there. Took me a while to realise it because I don't use the camera app often on my ASUS EEE Pad Transformer other than to shoot pictures but when I used it about few days ago to test the video recording quality, I noticed it has an option for time lapse recording.

Okay so what's time-lapse video recording all about? Here's an explanation from Wikipedia on Time Lapse Photography:

Time-lapse photography is a cinematography technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that which will be used to play the sequence back. When replayed at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing. For example, an image of a scene may be captured once every second, and then played back at 30 frames per second; the result would be an apparent increase of speed by 30 times. Time-lapse photography can be considered to be the opposite of high speed photography.

So do you get it now? The video in this post which was taken by the latest Samsung Galaxy Nexus which was unveiled about 2 weeks ago in Hong Kong, demonstrates what time lapse photography is all about. In HoneyComb's camera app, you get to choose between the following time lapse intervals: 1s, 1.5s, 2s, 2.5s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

The time lapse intervals means that for every x second(s), a frame will be captured. So for instance, if you set the time lapse interval to 2 seconds - every 2 seconds, 1 frame will be captured. Lets say you leave the camera app turned on to capture a video of the outdoors for 2 minutes. The end result will give you a 2 second video. How that is calculated is simple:

2 (mins) x 60 seconds = 120 seconds
2 seconds time lapse interval x 30 frames per second = 60 seconds
120 seconds / 60 seconds = 2 seconds of video time / event time.

So that's how you calculate how long the end result is. In HoneyComb, this is shown in the app itself, so you don't really need to calculate the time but its good to know how long you should leave the camera on just to have X seconds (or minutes) amount of footage.

With time-lapse recording, you can record events such as the sunset or sunrise or even a flower blossoming and so on. Use your imagination! With that, I will leave you to creatively explore time lapse photography. If you have a HoneyComb tablet, give it a shot.

Great Little War Game In-Depth Review

Rubicon's Great Little War Game is an excellent turn-based strategy game for Android and costs a decent $2.99 to buy for such an excellent game which makes you go "just one more turn" every time you play it before you go to work or before you go to sleep. I have to admit, I absolutely love this game even though I am not a fan of turn-based strategy games - I would say this is the exception case of all.

The graphics are great with lots of units, plenty of humour to go around with units saying "you're" when killed and the maps are pretty well thought out. You do get a variety of units ranging from your typical ground marine units, tanks, sea units and even bombers. Full review after the jump.

ASUS EEE Pad Transformer Prime Revealed

Yes folks, here's the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer Prime in all its glory. The successor to the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer has been snapped by Notebook Italia and as you can see from the picture above, it resembles a MacBook Air - a lot and that's not a bad thing because it looks like a very premium netbook / tablet hybrid.

From the keyboard itself, I noticed that the keyboard layout is completely unchanged - the key placements are exactly just like the first generation EEE Pad Transformer. What's different that I noticed is that on the touchpad, it is missing the horizontal button which you can do a left click and a right click with it.

I'm not sure why ASUS decided to remove it although the left click functionality can be executed via a single tap on the touchpad and the right click functionality can be replaced with the keyboard's back button. I still prefer to have those two buttons on the touchpad because it is more convenient than using the touchpad (and back button) to execute these two actions - especially the left click which I find tapping on the touchpad to be rather - erratic.

Nevertheless, this can be solved by plugging in an external USB mouse to the device. ASUS probably wanted to make the netbook/tablet hybrid look clean and simple. You can check out the rest of the screenshots in Notebook Italia:

Acer Iconia Tab Getting ICS Goodness In Jan 2012?

Since Ice Cream Sandwich was officially announced just about a week ago, many people have been wondering "when will my device get ICS?" but more importantly, "when will by HoneyComb tablet get the ICS Scoop?". For those of you who own the Acer Iconia A500/A501 and/or the Acer Iconia A100/A101, you can start the countdown - you should be getting the ICS treatment as early as mid January 2012 according to sources.

This is pretty much in line with what the other tablet manufacturers such as Motorola and ASUS have been planning to bring ICS to their flagship tablets, namely the Motorola Xoom and the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer since the upgrade from HoneyComb to ICS should be pretty straightforward compared to upgrading an Android device from Gingerbread to ICS.

January 2012 isn't too far off the calendar, that's a healthy 2 1/2 months-ish away from today, so enjoy HoneyComb while you can because come mid-Jan 2012, all of you Acer Iconia owners will be getting the full ICS treatment.

Play Minesweeper in 3D With Sweeper 3D

Here's another 3D minesweeper game - but this one is made with Unity 3D and while the graphics aren't exactly jaw dropping, it does take minesweeper to a whole new dimension! The game features two modes:
  1. A Classic mode closest to the original, where you aim for the lowest time. This is great for lunch breaks, or just a low-pressure brain teaser. Marking incorrectly adds 1 minute to your time, so only use it if you're sure!
  2. The Levels mode is for the competitive. It's a race. The clock is constantly counting down. Thinking quickly will get you good scores. Time is lost for every incorrectly marked tile. Tapping clocks gives you extra time. Combos for clearing quickly give you extra points. At the end of each cleared level you get an extra 30 seconds. Then a new level starts. The higher you go, there's a higher chance of more bombs.

    • iOnRoad provides a personal dashboard that displays all of your snapshots, alerts, and other driving data. Rack up safety points by maintaining sufficient headway distance during your trips and compete with other drivers. Simply log in to your dashboard using your Google account to access all your information or to share your snapshots, driving maps and status!
    • Ever wanted to report something you’ve seen on the road? A hazard? A wreckless driver? Now, with the iOnRoad snapshot assistant, you can! Just tap the “snapshot” icon on iOnRoad’s main display and a snapshot is immediately saved to your phone’s gallery. Want to share your snapshots? No problem. iOnRoad can upload your snapshots automatically right to your wall on Facebook!
    • iOnRoad runs in the background while you make calls, run Trapster, CarHome or other apps. iOnRoad is 100% compatible with other cool community navigation apps like Google maps, Waze, Sygic, navigon, iGo, magellan, Trapster, and Garmin nuvi. iOnRoad senses the motion of your car, not where the car is parked, unlike cool car parking apps such as MyCar Locator, Viper SmartStart, Find My Car, and Parkdroid.
    • Have you become an iOnRoad addict? If you have, this new feature will blow you away. Just enable automatic driving detection and iOnRoad will detect when you’re actually driving to start protecting you automatically and effortlessly! The iOnRoad icon displayed in your notification area will indicate whether iOnRoad is running!
    • Throughout the app development process, the iOnRoad team has tried hundreds of car mount holders, car chargers and other car accessories. We’ve chosen the best accessories and put them all in one accessory portal so you can select trusted accessories easily!

The app itself requires at least Android 2.2 and a 1 Ghz processor to run. Also take note that the app is still in beta, so it will be constantly improving as feedbacks and suggestions are made to the developer. This is a must have app on your Android device while you are driving on the road, but do pay attention to the actual vehicles, objects and pedestrians on the road rather than oogling over all the details that this app provides.

You can grab the app for FREE at the Android Market link below:

ICS Coming To As Many HTC Devices As Possible

With Sony Ericsson's recent announcement that they will be upgrading their existing Xperia lineup to support the latest Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 OS from Google, HTC has been pretty quiet about it and has just officially announced that ICS will indeed be coming to "as many HTC devices as possible".

Our best guess and bet is that HTC would (and should) upgrade their latest lineup of products first, especially those that were released this year, then followed by the ones from the previous year(s) and so on. Don't expect it to come anytime soon yet, this is just news to whet your appetite. With ICS, HTC now has the chance to start fresh by deciding whether to still bundle their Sense UI to the OS or leave it stock (with perhaps some minor modifications).

Leaving the OS mostly stock is a better choice which will reduce the turnaround time when a new update of the Android OS comes in. But I'm sure this will not be an easy decision either because doing so, may make customers who love and are so accustomed to their Sense UI to feel a bit "empty" with a stock Android (even though the stock ICS is pretty good on its own without any custom UI or features already).

This is something HTC must decide or better yet - ask the customers themselves, make a poll, survey. Obviously the best way to do this is to have an option to have either Sense UI or a stock experience, but the problem would be delivering the updates to the end user - they have to choose either one for the OTA updates. Alternatively, they could put up the Sense UI with the OTA updates to please the general crowd and for those who wants the "stock experience" can go ahead and grab a separate update file (for power users) from their HTC developer channel.

Sounds like a good idea right? Well, again this depends on the quietly brilliant company. Lets wait and see how this plays out.

ICS SDK Port To Nexus One Looks Pretty Alright

Here's a video on YouTube showing an SDK port of ICS to Nexus One and it runs pretty ok so far, but of course there's a lot of stuff to be worked on and I'm sure when the full source is released, the modders should be able to produce something spectacular out of it:

Install All Your APKs Easily With Mass APK Installer

An XDA Member has just created a Mass APK Installer tool that allows you to put your APKs into one folder, run a script and it'll automatically install it to your Android device without you to baby sit them one by one with any dialogs whatsoever.

You can do this with Titanium Backup but that requires you to root your Android device while this one doesn't appear to need root permissions as its all done in Windows instead.

Kobo Vox Set To Fight With Amazon Kindle Fire

Here's Kobo's Vox Tablet which is priced at the same $199 price tag as the Kindle Fire, it is set to take the battle head to head with Amazon's first ever Android based tablet. The Kobo Vox is also shipping out this month, so you can grab your hands on it pretty quick.

The specs are pretty much similar to the Kindle Fire too, sporting a 7 inch form factor, 1024x600 resolution, runs on a skinned Gingerbread build, powered by an 800 Mhz processor with 512 MB of RAM and has 8 GB of storage space an expandable via microSD card up to 32 GB.

The downside to this tablet is that it does not come with Android Market but an alternative market app which features of 15,000 apps as claimed by Kobo officials. This is a real bummer as the price tag is just about right and if they did include the Android Market in it, i'm sure a lot of people are gonna grab this one, but nevertheless, it's still a very cheap offering from Kobo. The tablet ships out on the 28th this month and is available in black, hot pink, ice blue and lime green colours.

Transformer 2 AKA Transformer Prime To Be Announced On November 9

The successor to the immensely popular and best selling Android Tablet - the ASUS EEE Pad Transformer will have its successor announced on the 9th Of November according to Johnny Shih, Chairman of ASUS during the AsiaD conference in Hong Kong earlier today.

He also mentions that the Transformer Prime will be sporting a quad-core processor (most likely the Tegra 3 obviously), a 10 inch display, USB and mini-hdmi ports, SD card slot and with a thickness of only 8.3mm thick on the tablet.

Another good news is that when asked on when we can expect ICS to land on the first generation Transformer, he was quick to mention that it would arrive even earlier than end of this year, so it's all good for both existing users of the Transformer tablet and also new buyers who intend to make their first Android netbook hybrid.

Swype Beta Updated With New Automatic Updates & More Languages

With a longstanding beta program, Swype which is still in beta has just been updated to a new version - 3.26 to be exact and there's a new automatic updates feature as well as more languages added to Swype as well. The new automatic updates feature is a welcome one as previously during the beta program, every time there's a new version, we have to uninstall the old version, lose our settings, reinstall the new version and redo our settings and dictionary.

Now we no longer have to worry (after this version that is, you still have to lose your settings just one last time). Other minor improvements include:

Refined Key Layout
We've changed the layout of the keyboard a tiny bit, so be prepared to unlearn what you have learned.
  • Numbers are now located along the top row of keys, similar to a traditional keyboard
  • The "Globe" key has been removed from all BETA builds (until we can make it an option in settings)
  • Added a second page to the symbols layer. Press the 1/2 key on the left to switch between them.
Enhanced Settings & Help

Confused by our old settings, tutorial, and help? Did you feel like you couldn't find info on how to use Swype effectively, and thought our settings were cluttered? Yeah, we did too. That's why we grabbed "Settings, Tutorial, & Help" by the collar, kicked it out of the house, cut off its trust fund access, and told it come back when it got its act together! Lo and behold, our newly reformed "Settings" is back and is now, well, actually helpful!
  • Long-press the SWYPE key to quickly access Swype Settings any time
  • Update Swype straight from the settings menu whenever a new version is available
  • Learn basic and advanced techniques to become an experienced Swyper. Do you know about "bouncing" and the auto-space suppress gesture? How about the editing layer? Check it out!
  • Set available languages and you'll never be offered a language you don't use when switching languages on-the-fly.
